(4)   Predictably Irrational is a winner!

Dan Ariely takes the reader on a quick tour of how people make decisions.  He is a professor of behavioral economics at MIT, but he communicates in a simple and straightforward way the basic ways that humans act when confronted with a decision.  Contrary to our notions of how people act, Ariely and his colleagues have conducted lots of research studies to how people react in lots of interesting scenarios.  It is not a dull read, and constantly I was finding myself thinking, "I knew that all along." BUT, most of the time I did not put it into the context of decision-making and how that affects social and economic policies.

We know we are duped by clever marketing techniques on a continual basis, but Ariely wants us to re-think our paradigms and the forces that control our behaviors. Given the current economic crisis, it may be more important than ever to read this book!
