Decent Advice, Yucky Recipe

Reviewed on 6/5/09 at 1:56 AM.

The author's chatty no-nonsense style is refreshing and easy to read. The advice is straightforward stuff we've all heard a million times before ("know when you're truly hungry, don't binge, portion control, balance carbs and protien etc. etc. etc") - but maybe hearing it again is a good thing. That said, I tried out the recipe for the banana choc chip cookies (p.30) and... bluuuurrraaaghhhhh. I couldn't scrape off my tongue fast enough. They were thick, cakey and totally inedible. Maybe that's why Bethenny never eats them (and, if you watch the ep at the supermarket, no one else does either.) She also cites Paris Hilton as a "naturally thin" inspiration (p. 34). Um, no.

WW drop outs this one is for you!

I bought this book along with "I Make You Thin" by Paul McKenna. Both are built on the concepts of eating when you are hungry and PAYING ATTENTION to what you put in your mouth. Both books are very empowering. What speaks to me most is the realization that this isn't your last meal, not the last time you'll have a french fry, nachos, cheesecake, just take a couple bites and have it again in a few weeks! Bethany's book is more funny and light hearted, and gives you respect as a reader.
I've been through Weight Watchers, which helped me lose 30 pounds in about 5 months, but I couldn't keep up with the CONSTANT counting, measuring and weighing and so I gained it all back and then some. I agree with Bethany that diets don't work, and although WW claims the same thing, they ARE A DIET! I don't want my diet to rule my life, and with the information both this book and Paul's book has provided me, it no longer will. I ABSOLUTELY recommend this book to people who are Weight Watchers drop outs, the freedom will inspire you! Even though you're not supposed to weigh yourself within the first week, I HAD to, 6 lb lost already, I don't care if it's water weight or not!

I enjoyed this book very much. The common sense approach to eating right is something most people overlook. Frankel does an excellent job of reminding us what we have forgotten. It is easy to read and I enjoyed how the book is broken into chapters centering around each rule. This regimen is easy to follow and execute for a lifetime.

it really is making me think and wonder about how i eat

i bought this book because i love bethenny from the show. i also wanted to buy it so i could see what her take on eating to be thin meant. i am almost done with the book, and i have to say i have now caught myself being more conscientious about how i eat and what i eat. after reading this book, you'll catch yourself realizing what and how you're eating. i love it.
